Involuntary Mental Health Admissions under the Baker Act

Family or friends concerned that a mentally ill loved one is putting themselves or others at risk may request an involuntary Baker Act admission to Manatee Glens by filing an ex parte petition at the Manatee County Clerk of Court or by calling 911 for law enforcement. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Department provides safe transport to Manatee Glens Hospital at 2020 26th Avenue East in Bradenton. Under law, the Baker Act is a civil proceeding not an arrest.

Parents may bring their minor child directly to Manatee Glens Children's Crisis Center at 2020 26th Avenue East in Bradenton and initiate an involuntary commitment under their own parental authority for emotional and behavioral concerns.

Involuntary Alcohol and Drug Admissions under the Marchman Act

If a loved one is putting themselves or others at risk because of alcohol or drugs, we recommend that you contact us at 941-782-4116 to plan for an alcohol and drug intervention. However, families may also request an involuntary Marchman Act admission to Manatee Glens by filing a petition at the Manatee County Clerk of Court at or by calling 911 for law enforcement. Under law, the Marchman Act is a civil proceeding not an arrest.
