POLICIES & PROCEDURES
APPIC/APA STATUS
MGCH has been an APPIC-accredited intern site since 2005. Though we currently appear to meet the requirements of an APA internship site, we have no immediate plan to seek this accreditation during this internship year.
AVAILABLE INTERNSHIPS
For 2010-2011, there are four available full-time internships.
APPLICATION PROCESS
MGCH application materials include a CV, transcripts, three letters of recommendation, statement of interest, a child psychological report and the regular APPI materials. Completed packets for 2009-2010 are to be postmarked no later than November 28; incomplete packets will not be reviewed.
Upon review by the Director of Clinical Training, the Rotation Supervisors and other program managers (“Application Committee”), prospective interns will be contacted to arrange interviews. Such interviews will include direct contact with psychology supervisors and current psychology interns on a day arranged for intern interviews. Phone interviews can be arranged in unusual circumstances. After completing such interviews, the Application Committee will decide who it will offer internships to for the coming year and will rank order such prospective interns. MGCH will follow all APPIC guidelines in this process.
TITLE
Interns will be designated as “Psychology Interns” in all MGCH communications, in all MGCH documentation and in all public information dissemination. Regarding the latter, it will be clear at all times that the “Psychology Intern” is not able to practice independently and is functioning under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.
DURATION/DIRECT CLIENT CONTACT
This internship will consist of a minimum of 2000 hours, conducted over a 12-month period. Extensions beyond the 12-month period will be considered in cases where situations arise that would not allow the accumulation of at least 2000 hours. A 40-hour work week is the expectation of this internship. During that week, present interns have reported 60% direct client contact; direct clinical experience above 25% of your time is guaranteed.
STIPEND
There is a paid stipend for this internship; the anticipated stipend is $15,100. For 2010-2011, Manatee Glens primary rotations will include access to medical insurance, life insurance, paid days off and retirement savings; Children’s Home primary placements will not include benefits.
SUPERVISION
For 2010-2011, MGCH has three licensed psychologists to provide the above intern supervision. The Director of Clinical Training will be appointed each year by consensus of the Application Committee. In all instances, this will be a licensed psychologist; in some instances, this can be a supervisor of one of the rotations.
The 2010-11 Director of Clinical Training is Robert Boxley PhD.
