Placement Particulars for each level of student

Medical Resident- placement is for a one-month psychiatric rotation only.  Non-recurring.

 

Post-Doctoral Resident- is considered a full-time staff member in the program they are assigned (with all the benefits & responsibilities thereof).  They must meet licensure requirements of 1 hour supervision for every 15 hours worked.  Recurring.

 

Psychology Intern- is considered a full-time staff member in the program they are assigned (with all the benefits & responsibilities thereof).  They must meet APPIC guidelines: for supervision (2.5 hours weekly) and for didactic activities (2 hours weekly).  Didactic activities include in-services, treatment teams etc.  APPIC requires a minimum of 10 hours weekly be in direct client care.  Recurring.

 

Psychology Trainee (Therapy) - is a student that works a set schedule in the program(s) that they are assigned. They must be engaged in providing direct clinical services; Psychological assessments are not generally conducted. They get approximately 3 hours of supervision weekly. They must meet school requirements of having 50% of their time in clinical services.  The school informally requires them to see at least two adult/adolescent clients for at least 8-12 sessions in order for them to pass their competency requirement.  The average practicum is 20 hours for 40 weeks, their average productive time is 17 hours weekly. Recurring.

 

MSW Intern- is a student that works a set schedule in the program(s) that they are assigned. They must be engaged in providing direct clinical services and supervised by an LCSW. They are required to get regular supervision (usually 1-2 hours weekly) here and get some school-based directions.  Students can accumulate their 1,000 hours over two years.  Non-recurring.

 

MFT/MHC/MRC Intern- is a student that works a set schedule in the program(s) that they are assigned. They must be engaged in providing direct clinical services and supervised by a licensed individual from their discipline.  Their school dictates the amount of supervision and particulars, so there is variability to their duties and requirements.  Some students are required to do 800 hours of direct service, but the time period for this is flexible.  Non-recurring.

 

Psychology Trainee (Diagnostic) - is a student that works a set schedule in the program(s) that they are assigned.  They get approximately 3 hours of supervision weekly. They must meet school requirements of having 50% of their time in specific & limited clinical services.  They are restricted to intakes, screenings, interviews and any activity that could be defined as “assessment” rather than “treatment”.  The school requires them to have at least one full battery assessment monthly (9 per year) in order for them to pass their competency requirement.  The average practicum is 20 hours for 40 weeks.  Recurring.

 

Psychology Trainee (Specialty or Pre-Practicum) - is a student that works a set schedule in the program(s) that they are assigned. As they are outside the regular requirements of their school, they provide services as dictated by the program and their competency level (MA vs. BA).  The amount of supervision is flexible and the length of the practicum has great variability.  Non-Recurring.

 

BSW/BA Intern- is a student that works a set schedule in the program(s) that they are assigned. They should be engaged in providing direct case management services and supervised by a licensed individual from their discipline.  Their school dictates the amount of supervision and particulars, so there is variability to their duties and requirements.  Some students are required to do 800 hours of direct service, but the time period for this is flexible.  Non-recurring.

 

M.C.C. Health Science Students- are students that work in specific programs in the corporation.  Nursing students complete observational rotations on in-patient units for periods of less than one month.  Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) -1 students complete observational rotations in in-patient or out-patient programs for 6-8 weeks. OTA-2 students complete clinical rotations in in-patient or out-patient programs for the length of a semester (up to 12 weeks).  M.C.C. provides the supervisors for all these students and provides some needed documentation for them to observe clients.  Recurring.
